*Railroaded fabric, or RR fabric, is a fabric with a pattern that runs horizontally across the width of the fabric, perpendicular to the selvage. Non-railroaded fabric, or “Up the Roll”,runs vertical to the selvage and is commonly used for draperies.

In most cases, railroaded fabric is often used for upholstery because it allows cushions to be made in one continuous piece. All railroaded fabric can easily be used for drapery or other projects needing parallel or “Up the Roll” fabric.
